If you're reading Sovereignty's Website for the first time, then you might be wondering what we are all about. This page is intended to locate our Website within the wider context of our Belief, Purpose and Work at Sovereignty -- that is, to explain what we believe, what we intend to achieve, and what we're doing to get there!
Please subscribe or donate and support us in our valuable activity.
WHAT WE ARE
Sovereignty is an independent Advocacy Group which campaigns around the key theme of
Self-Determination -- National, Local, Personal. It was established by the current Director
Alistair McConnachie in 1999.
OUR AIM
To communicate, to educate, and to influence national political debate and policy-making, and to build a large body of informed public opinion which supports the Philosophy, and promotes the Policies of Self-Determination for the United Kingdom.
WHAT WE DO
Sovereignty has two main branches of activity.
One, we are an Advocacy Group campaigning around the theme of Self-Determination -- when and where the opportunity presents itself -- for example by appearing on national mass media.
Two, we publish a monthly Journal called Sovereignty and this Website called sovereignty.org.uk
Our publishing activity is our core activity. It is key to everything we do. It is the activity which allows us to be heard and to be known about, and to be invited to speak and debate on national mass media. We are now in the tenth year of continuous, consecutive, monthly publication of our Journal, and June 2009 will see our 120th, ten year, publication.
We are the only, non-political party affiliated, monthly pro-sovereignty Journal in the UK, and the only one, at all (party or non-party affiliated) in Scotland. Thus we are unique.
We explore topics, develop and advocate Principles, and publicise and campaign for Policies, based on the theme of Self-Determination -- at a National, Local and Personal level -- including:
National Self-Determination -- out the EU, and into the World
Sovereign Association for the Nations of Europe -- SANE, not EU
Popular Democracy -- not Plutocracy
Economic Democracy -- not Debt Slavery
Localisation -- not Globalisation
Energy Independence -- not Dependence
Food Sovereignty -- not Food Dependence. We advocate further related principles including Natural Farming, Animal Welfare, Pastoralism, Bio-diversity, Urban Farming, Permaculture, Opposition to Corporate Control, and Solidarity with Farmers Internationally.
Furthermore, we address matters relating to the British Union which we support; the British Constitution; and matters relating to free speech and, increasing in importance, population and immigration issues.
In addition:
• We reach out to the national mass media and we are regularly invited onto radio programmes to speak and debate on our key themes.
• We communicate and educate nationally and internationally, raising awareness and teaching, including providing information for students, and promoting, protesting and correcting information where appropriate, through a variety of media.
• We develop philosophy and policy for the sovereignty movement, and interested parties, in a comprehensive, consistent, coherent, concise, accessible, easily understood and usable manner.
• We provide arguments and rebuttals for the sovereignty movement, and interested parties.
• We lobby politicians and opinion formers.
• We provide a readily available and easily accessible source of information for the public, schools, politicians and the media, and access to our resources, library, cuttings archive and bookshop.
• We provide speakers for schools, public meetings and media events.
• We provide participants, and help co-ordinate participants, for television, radio and newsprint interviews, panels and audiences, and for public meetings.
• We publicise worthwhile events and initiatives.
• We work with others to promote our shared principles and policies, liasing with like-minded individuals and groups in the UK and overseas.
• We advise others on how best to promote our shared principles and policies.
• We bring people together.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT -- Our Unique Selling Points
We seek to develop a comprehensive, consistent, coherent and concise worldview for our readers, which places our concerns within a Context and a Vision and in a package which they can use with confidence.
We have a commitment to ensuring our articles are well researched, clearly argued, and do not waffle. They are lean and fat-free so they are easily digestible, easily understood, easily retained in the brain, and easily explained to others, so that the ideas within them will catch-on and travel and ultimately influence the wider political culture. Every article on every page teaches the reader something, or is helpful, or makes a good point which the reader can then use in his or her efforts to spread the good word. There is no wasted reading time with us!
We report activity not reported elsewhere. We are solution-orientated, not gloom-mongers. We concentrate on what can be done to make things better.
We do not support any particular political party and have subscribers who are members of all parties and none. Therefore, Sovereignty's independent status enables us to address many issues related around the theme of Self-Determination, not bound by any party-political line. This enables us, and our distributors, to reach out to new people who would not otherwise hear our positive messages.
BECOME A SOVEREIGNTY REPORTER
Have you been at a meeting, a rally, or a lecture which you thought should have been attended by more people, or you just wished that more people could have been there to hear the message?
Well, you can make that happen, by simply becoming a Sovereignty reporter. Technically speaking, it's never been easier!
We can publish the report in our monthly Journal, or on this Website, or on both, and your work can be read potentially by thousands of people. Our readers want to hear about the purpose of the event, who was there, and what was said, specifically the best and most telling points that we need to know.
Please send us your report in any format, including hand written notes -- although electronic is quickest for us. We can use photographs sent to us digitally, or by post -- we will scan them and return forthwith.
We are always looking for people who would like to be published and who can address our core subjects, as above, or who can do book reviews, healthy lifestyle columns and cultural reviews. We can edit to fit 800-1200 words per page in our Journal to a maximum of two pages. Please send us your submissions, or ideas, using the contact information below.
